In 2019, CDP’s forests program is expanding its focus to also encompass non-agricultural activities. Specifically, it will also be looking at how mining companies are managing their impacts and risks, as well as realizing opportunities, related to biodiversity and forests. This new questionnaire will be incorporated into CDP’s global environmental disclosure system and more than one hundred mining companies will already be invited to respond to it this year. CDP is part of the NYDF Progress Assessment Partners, an independent monitoring effort undertaken by a growing group of NGOs and research institutions that annually assess progress toward the NYDF. This new reporting mechanism is expected to provide improved data on the relationship between mining and forests, contributing to future assessments related to NYDF’s Goal 3.
